Quandary Peak

The date and peak has been set. December 3rd I will be climbing Quandary Peak. Located about 6 miles south of Breckenridge in the Tenmile Range, Quandary's summit is 14,265ft.

I will be climbing the East Ridge route (standard) which without snow is a Class 1. Round trip is just under 8 miles assuming we can reach the trailhead (TH) at 10,850ft. Total elevation gain is 3,450ft.

To get to the TH, travel 6 miles southwest of Breckenridge on Colorado 9. Just before Hoosier Pass turn onto Blue Lakes Road (marked CO850) then take an immediate right onto McCullough Gulch Road (.1 mile) to the TH.

If you are looking for more of a challenge, you can continue on CO850 until you get to the TH near Blue Lakes. This route is rated a difficult class 2 snow route.

I've been a little too lazy this season to attempt that route however so for more information visit 14ers.com

I have not been able to get any information on how much snow is on the mountain currently but I do know that it has been experiencing some very high winds. Hopefully those will have subsided but the 3rd.

Stay tuned for more...

14summits - An Introduction

14summits is the new home of 100 peaks.

100 peaks started as a personal challenge to summit 100 peaks in 6 years. Sadly that goal wasn't progressing as planned, mostly due to a lack of planning. I've essentially abandoned the original goal and gone back to the drawing board.

14summits is a new site, and a new challenge. There are no set numbers. No deadline. No rules. Just a site to share my experiences in hiking and mountaineering. With a focus on climbing the 14ers of Colorado.

I will be posting images, maps, trail descriptions and updates along the way. I also plan to post my climbing schedule as well, so others can strap on their boots, grab their pack, and meet me at the trailhead!

Hope to see you out there!
